If you have type-2 diabetes, you should be doing two-and-a-half hours of moderately intense exercises, including strength training, per week, according to a statement released by the American Heart Association, published in the June issue of Circulation. Such an exercise plan should help reduce the cardiovascular risk of patients with diabetes. Research shows that diet and exercise can prevent or slow the development of type-2 diabetes and help improve blood sugar levels as well as other cardiovascular risk factors. The AHA reported that heart and blood vessel disease is responsible for 70 percent of deaths in people with type-2 diabetes. Patients are advised to work out an exercise regimen or a "prescription for exercise" with their doctors.
