More than half the women in this country age 65 and older have blood pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg, or hypertension. Its a serious issue, because hypertension is a major risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease. In fact, 69 percent of adults who have a first heart attack, 77 percent of those who have a first stroke and 74 percent of those who develop heart failure have hypertension.
