The need for aortic valve (AV) replacement is not limited to individuals of Medicare age with stiff, calcified valves. Many individuals in their 20, 30s, 40s and 50s also need their AV replaced, although for different reasons. Because the optimal approach to AV replacement is based on life expectancy and the durability of the valve, recommendations for younger patients are different from those for older ones.
