Getting the flu can be a miserable experience. Having a fever, aching body and extreme fatigue for several days to a week is no fun. While most people recover from the flu without incident, 30,000 to 60,000 people in the U.S. die from the flu every year. If you have heart disease, a lung disease such as COPD or asthma, smoke or have diabetes, you are at elevated risk of complications if you catch the flu. That’s why getting a flu shot this year and every year is important.
