And like all organs, your kidneys need a strong heart to keep pumping oxygenated and nutrient-filled blood to them to remain healthy and functional. Even though your renal and cardiovascular systems are so inter-dependent, patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the slow loss of kidney function over time, have historically not been represented in cardiovascular clinical trials.
