Aspirin is a staple in many medicine cabinets. But if you take blood-thinning medications for a heart condition or after receiving a stent, you should talk with your doctor first before reaching for an aspirin to treat a fever or headache.Blood thinners include anticoagulants such as warfarin (Coumadin) and antiplatelet drugs, such as clopidogrel (Plavix). If you take these medications for conditions such as arrhythmias or to prevent a stroke, also using aspirin may cause serious bleeding complications.
