Ask the Doctors: 08/05
I was having bad chest pains that required a cardiac catheterization. Then my doctor told me that I have small vessel disease in my coronary arteries. How serious is that? The term small vessel disease usually refers to small arteries of the heart that are narrowed by a build-up of atherosclerotic plaque. The implication is that the affected arteries are too small to perform angioplasty and stenting, or to consider bypass surgery. The diagnosis ordinarily implies that there is advanced coronary artery disease. Subscribers: Non-subscribers: |
