But a recent study suggests that nearly 68,000 deaths potentially could be prevented annually if key national guideline-recommended therapies were optimally implemented for eligible heart failure patients. The study, published in the June issue of the American Heart Journal, grouped the potential lives that could be saved with various medications, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
