Microvessel disease is caused by endothelial dysfunction, which means that arteries too small to be stented or bypass constrict when they should dilate. Patients with microvessel disease have normal cardiac catheterizations (no blockages seen), but have chest pain with exercise or stress. The test we like to do to diagnose microvessel disease is cardiac MRI.
