The numbers say it all. Obesity in middle age translates to a substantial decrease in average life expectancy: 7.1 years for women and 5.8 years for men. Regardless of this fact, and the prevalence of obesity-related diseases, 69 percent of Americans age 65 and older are still overweight or obese.
