With so much attention focused on COVID-19, it is easy to forget that there are other dangerous lung infections. One is pneumonia, which is a major threat to people with heart disease. Every year, pneumonia and influenza together are among the top 10 causes of death in the United States. Individuals with heart failure are particularly vulnerable: Heart failure triples the likelihood of getting pneumonia and quadruples the risk of dying from it soon thereafter.
