Awareness of heart attack symptoms can be a life-saver among people who have already suffered a heart attack, or who suffer cardiac risk factors like hypertension or diabetes, according to a recent study. The finding is a wake-up call to people with heart disease, according to Michael Faulx, MD, a staff cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. "People who arent familiar with the signs may not seek treatment," he says. "A heart attack causes heart muscle cells to die-the longer you wait the more muscle you lose."
