Q. I’ve been on blood pressure medications for as long as I can remember and have always taken these meds at night, as instructed. As I’ve gotten older, though, I find that I’m getting up too often to use the bathroom. Would taking these drugs in the morning help with this problem?
A
Your diuretic is likely responsible for contributing to multiple awakenings during the night to urinate. Taking your diuretic in the morning should help relieve the problem. However, you may want to continue taking your ACE inhibitor and calcium-channel blocker in the evening. If you take them with a diuretic in the morning, you may feel lightheaded when your blood pressure dips in the middle of the day.
