Why Bypass is Safer than Ever Doing more with less: Gentler gear, lower mortality. With the regularity of a healthy heartbeat, advances in the science of bypass surgery over the past decade have made the procedure less intrusive, safer and more effective than ever. Some breakthroughs like beating-heart surgery and robotic assistance in the O.R. grab the headlines.
