What’s the Skinny on New Research into Fats and Oils?

Cleveland Clinic experts recommend limiting saturated fats, even though recent headlines question just how dangerous they are to heart health.

Earlier this year, a study published in Annals of Internal Medicine garnered considerable media coverage when researchers suggested that there is insufficient evidence to support restrictions on saturated fat intake in the name of better cardiovascular health. The study also questioned whether polyunsaturated fats, such as those found in fish, nuts and certain vegetable oils, really provided heart-healthy benefits. Polyunsaturated fats contain omega-3 fatty acids, which have long been associated with promoting heart health.
