Adults with Type 2 Diabetes Struggle to Modify Risk Factors
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) doubles or triples the risk for heart attack and stroke, yet many Americans are not compelled to change their habits to reduce their risk. According to an American Heart Association Scientific Statement published online Jan. 10, 2022, in Circulation, more than 80% of American adults with T2D have failed to achieve the recommended blood glucose, blood pressure and LDL levels or have stopped smoking, leaving them at high risk for a cardiovascular event. When obesity is factored in, more than 90% of patients with T2D are at elevated risk.
