Just a few decades ago, people turned "elderly" earlier in life.

Today, diligent care can slow declines that previous generations accepted as an inevitable burden of aging. Research in recent years suggests that treatments proven to help younger patients — powerful medications, aggressive procedures — often yield just as much or more benefit to older people. Despite these findings, some doctors still put on kid gloves when they deal with patients over 65.
