Controlling your risk of heart disease may control your risk of dementia, too. Thats the finding of a pair of studies that focus on the heart-brain connection. The first is an American Heart Association statement that atherosclerosis can result in age-related vascular cognitive impairment. Experts who drafted this statement believe that cerebrovascular disease and Alzheimers disease may work together to cause dementia, and that this may be a very common source of dementia in older adults. The statement was published in the July 22 issue of the journal Stroke.
