You have probably heard about percutaneous valve replacement. This is an emerging medical technology that involves collaboration between interventional cardiologists (the doctors who do angioplasty and stenting procedures) and cardiac surgeons. Instead of traditional valve surgery that involves making incisions in the chest wall, percutaneous valve replacement would avoid such incisions, and instead introduce the valves through the arteries and veins of the leg, similar to a cardiac catheterization procedure, though with much bigger equipment.
