You might call aspirin a miracle drug. Its cheap, available without a prescription and more effective than newer medications in reducing risk of death from heart attack and heart failure. But studies show there are differences in how aspirin affects some men and women. In postmenopausal women with risk factors, aspirin has been shown to be highly effective in preventing a first stroke, but not a first heart attack. Its the opposite in men.
