Fast-loss plans may not keep pounds off, and can be dangerous to your heart.

Commercials and book covers tout ways to lose unwanted pounds fast, for example by eating more protein and less carbohydrate. But professional dietitians advise caution about these unbalanced diets, because the initial weight loss is often deceptive and temporary. And the oversupply of protein can be hard on people suffering from heart disease and other health problems.
