The rate of success for heart valve surgery is the same for men and women.

Bypass surgery gets a lot of press, but it isn’t the only type of heart surgery some women need. Sometimes, a heart valve needs to be repaired or replaced. Women can expect excellent results with either approach. “The rate of success for both procedures is the same as for men,” says Cleveland Clinic heart surgeon Stephanie Mick, MD.
