People with the skin condition psoriasis may be more likely to experience any of several cardiovascular problems, including atrial fibrillation, heart attack and stroke, according to research presented at the American College of Cardiology annual conference in March. The 10-year study of more than 40,000 patients with psoriasis found that patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis were not only at greater risk of cardiovascular complications, but of all-cause mortality, too. Researchers suggest that the association between heart disease and psoriasis, a condition in which cells build up quickly on the surface of the skin in often-painful patches, is that both are linked to excess inflammation.
